The Influence of the family as a social institution
Among the many modern social institutions the family is one of the first places. Its primary influence on the child cannot be denied, as it lays the Foundation for future social life of the child. The family is one of the branches of educating the younger generation, the second public. Today there’s no argument about what is more important in the development of personality: family or public education (kindergarten, school, other educational institutions). Modern science unanimously agree that without prejudice to the personality development of the child it is impossible to abandon the family education because of its power and effectiveness is incomparable with any, even very skilled education.
Modern family can’t raise a child in isolation from other educational institutions: the child goes to preschool, then school, is in the circle or Studio art education, visit the sports section, etc.
In spite of the universality and indispensability of family education, it cannot provide the breadth of conditions for harmonious and comprehensive development of personality. So today we are not talking about replacing the home educating the public or Vice versa, and their complementarity in building the child’s personality, on the cooperation of parents and professional educators.
In recent years, the family became increasingly resort to the institutions for the correction of development of the child’s behavior is a psychological Advisory service, speech-language classrooms at the clinics, special preschools for children with chronic diseases, etc. Families with children of preschool age, invisible threads connected with the school: parents are worried about how the child is prepared for the requirements of the modern school, and within its capabilities, are beginning to focus on these requirements. Then comes the moment of choosing a school, preparing children to learn in it.
Thus, the modern family education is not regarded as an Autonomous factor in the formation of personality. On the contrary, the effectiveness of home education increases if it is complemented by other educational institutions with which the family relations of cooperation and interaction.
The influence of the family as a social institution on the personality development of a child is enormous, though, does not provide the breadth of conditions for harmonious and comprehensive development of personality.
Virtually all of the family and its social functions is the possibility of community marital interests – the creation and formation of a child. The children’s personality development is a process of comprehensive development of the psyche through socialization, education, self-development, i.e. internal progressive change in the physical and the spiritual.
It is the family helps the child to become a Mature person, as attitudes of family, the nature of the interaction of the child with adults, family microclimate – all this forms the personality of the child. And as argued by psychologists and educators about the specifics of the formation of the self of the child, none of them deny the huge impact that parents have on this process. The family is the most important source for the formation of personal and social stability of the child. In addition to conscious, purposeful education that parents give to their child, it affects the whole family atmosphere, and the effect of it (which the child experiences just before, in the period when it is most susceptible) accumulates with age, refracting in the personality structure.
The child takes the parents a lot of personal meanings, which become the foundations for further self-determination and identity. However, these ideas about the world and ourselves are not always constructive for him. In situations of improper interaction of parents with the child (e.g., without regard to personal characteristics) he is considered to have a negative self-image, resulting in distorted and attitude.
There are three main factors of influence of the parental family on the formation of child’s personality:
1. personal experience of the child obtained by the interaction with parents;
2. Socio-economic status of the family;
3. The identity of the child.
No one is surprised by the widely known fact that the personality of the child, and, consequently, the whole of his subsequent life, influenced by the style of parenting. Moreover, this behavioral style is so firmly embedded in the personality of the child that he, becoming an adult, would prefer this style of parenting and for their children.
Analyzing all the above observations regarding the influence of parents on the formation of child’s personality, one should also recall the works of E. Bern, in which he contends that there are strict parent programming in the child’s life. According to E. Bern, parent programming is a kind of punch card embedded in the brain of a child is still a child, he goes through throughout his life. This is the life script of the child, which will determine its relations with other, and attitude, and the attitude towards career.
